The dollar was barely changed against the euro on Monday, with the market awaiting Tuesday's report on April consumer prices in the U.S. and speeches from a host of Fed speakers this week. Core consumer prices, which exclude the effect of energy and food costs, are expected to show a rise of 0.5% in April, slightly below a 0.6% increase in the previous month.
The Czech currency dipped against the euro yesterday, but took little notice of comments by CNB board member Hampl who cooled market speculation about an imminent interest rate hike. Hampl said that the CNB should wait for further data confirming the upward inflation risks, adding he would not personally vote for a hike before a new inflation prognosis in July.
