The dollar declined to near an all-time low against the euro on Wednesday, and fell to a record low against a trade-weighted basket of seven major currencies as disappointing U.S. housing data contrasted with upbeat figures out of euro zone. Sales of U.S. new homes rose by lower-than-expected 2.6% in March, offseting an earlier report which showed surprisingly strong U.S. durable goods orders. In Europe, Germany's Ifo business sentiment index climbed to 108.6 in April from 107.7 in March, while the market had forecast a reading of 108.
The Czech crown fell to six-week lows against the euro on Wednesday as broad expectations that the CNB will leave interest rates unchanged at today's monetary policy meeting have encouraged investors to use it for carry trades. By contrast, the majority of CEE currencies gained versus the single currency.
