The U.S. dollar tumbled against the euro on Wednesday after a U.S. Treasury report confirmed fears that the United States faced a problem of financing its current account deficit. The report showed that portfolio inflows into the United...
...States amounted to $48.1 billion in October, which was insufficient to cover a record $55.5 billion trade deficit for the same month. The dollar also fell against the yen as the Japanese currency got a boost from the closely watched Bank of Japan's "tankan" survey, which showed that the deterioration in Japanese business sentiment was not as large as many had forecast. This afternoon, another key U.S. report on the current account data will be released. The market expects a $170 billion gap for Q3, which would be up from second quarter's $166.2 billion shortfall.
The Czech crown traded in a tight range yesterday, ending the session flat at around 30.640 per euro. The market shrugged off the parliamentary appoval of the central state budget for next year. Earlier today, the Czech Statistical Office reported retail sales rose 1.7% y-o-y in October, above expectations for a 1.0% increase.
